To parents of players registered in our 13-14 boys basketball league for his
We are experiencing an overwhelming demand for this age group. This could be due to the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to make middle school teams or due to players at this age looking forward to participating in our very popular high school "team league" which begins in 9th grade. In either case, the challenge in accommodating this growth is space - particularly for practices.
After discussing with the 13-14 league coaches, we have concluded that the best option is to eliminate regular practices for this age group and attempt to have more games to be scheduled on Saturdays, Sunday Afternoons or even some weeknights at 7pm. Additionally, coaches interested in scheduling 1 or 2 pre-season practices may be able to do that based on gym availability between now and Thanksgiving.
With this "game only" format, we can accommodate the growth while allowing our players (and parents) to continue to put their own teams together. This may also help to lift some burden off of these middle school students' already overwhelming schedules. Additionally, modeling this after our high school league, will help these teams prepare for the seasons to come. As you know, basketball is a sport that these players can play just about their whole life - even if they do not play for their schools. In addition to youth leagues, there is our high school league, college intramural leagues, fraternity leagues, adults leagues, corporate leagues and even senior leagues! We think it is fantastic that we can bridge the gap at this age group and keep the boys active on the courts.
However, if this is not what you want for your son, please let us know and we will promptly process a refund for you. We believe there is still time to register at other area churches. Otherwise we look forward to seeing everyone in the upcoming season!
